Alvin is located 24 miles south of downtown Houston and near the Gulf of Mexico. Residents can be either on the water or in a major city in about 30 minutes. Alvin is in Brazoria County, as opposed to most of Houston, which is in Harris County. The land was originally granted to the Houston Tap and Brazoria Railroad. Nearby attractions include Brazoria County Museum, Space Center Houston, Nolan Ryan Center, and the 1940 Air Terminal Museum. The 2020 population in Alvin is roughly 29,500.
