Famous People from Dallas

Famous People from Dallas

With a population of nearly 5 million people, Dallas has probability on its side when it comes to producing famous people. Here are a few of the biggest names to ever come out of Dallas.

Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson is one of the most easily identifiable and beloved actors in Hollywood. Most people know him best from Wedding CrashersZoolanderMeet the Parents, and The Royal Tenenbaums. Wilson grew up in Dallas with his three brothers; one of which, Luke Wilson, is also a successful actor. While it’s hard to believe such a likeable guy could get in very much trouble, Owen actually managed to get expelled from St. Mark’s School of Texas in his sophomore year of high school. He ended up finishing out high school at a military academy in New Mexico. It just goes to show that you can be successful no matter what.

Jordan Spieth

Currently ranked number two on the PGA Tour, Jordan Spieth is the hottest thing in golf at the moment, and for good reason. Only 22 years old, Spieth has already won two major championships (the Masters and US Open), and if not for a colossal choke in this year’s Masters that number would be even higher. Spieth was born in Dallas and attended St. Monica Catholic School before graduating from Jesuit College Preparatory School in 2011. He was named to Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” earlier this year and by all indications he is the future of professional golf.

George W. Bush

Whether you love him or hate him, there aren’t many people whose notoriety can rival that of “Dubya”. While Bush wasn’t born in Dallas, he currently resides in Preston Hollow. Bush’s major accolades include serving as Governor of Texas, as well as his two terms as the 43rd President of the United States. In his retirement since presidency Bush has stayed in the limelight through periodic public appearances and his unique artwork.

Vanilla Ice

Robert Matthew Van Winkle, better known as Vanilla Ice, was born in South Dallas on October 31, 1967. He attended R.L. Turner High School and is most famous for his 1990 single “Ice Ice Baby“. In addition to his rap career and involvement in the music industry, Van Winkle also appeared on reality television in shows such as The Surreal Life. Despite running into legal issues several times over Vanilla remains an overall well liked pop culture celebrity.
